In February, Central Kitsap Schools joins communities across the nation in honoring Black History Month—a time to intentionally recognize and celebrate the rich history, lasting contributions, and profound legacy of Black and African Americans in shaping our country.
Since its national observance began in 1976, every U.S. president has designated February as Black History Month, encouraging Americans to reflect on the essential role of Black individuals in our shared history. This month provides an important opportunity for learning, dialogue, and appreciation of the cultural, social, and historical impact of Black Americans.
Throughout February, our schools will engage students in activities and lessons that explore the many dimensions of Black history in the United States.
We highlight and celebrate national history and heritage months as a district and in schools throughout the year as part of our commitment to ensuring safe and welcoming learning environments. This includes Black History Month (February); Women’s History Month (March); Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Month (May); Pride Month (June); Hispanic/Latin(o/a/x) Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15); Disability History Month (October); and Native American Heritage Month (November).

Transfer Requests Reminder
If your child attends a CK school that is not your attendance area school, don’t forget to submit both a School Choice Application and a OSPI Choice Transfer Request for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. These forms need to be completed each year. Requests received after April 25 will be reviewed when school offices reopen in late August. Questions? Visit our Transfer FAQs page.

New Year = New Commitment to Attendance
One of the best ways to support your child’s education is by making sure they attend school every day. Daily attendance supports learning and builds habits that lead to graduation and beyond. Visit our Attendance Matters webpage for tips.
